Have you seen it? The Town of Paradise has a new Town Seal! Approved by the Town Council in September 2021 and officially adopted in mid-October 2021, the new seal is the first revision since 1983, created shortly after the Town was incorporated in 1979.
This updated version celebrates a new era in Paradise history as the town continues to rebuild. Artist Jake Early, famed for his memorable prints of local scenery and landmarks, was commissioned by the Town to create the new design that honors both past and future Paradise. We asked him to share a few thoughts on the process:
Town of Paradise: Hi Jake! Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind your design?
Jake Early: When I was contacted to contribute my ideas on a new Town logo, I jumped at the honor! I started with the silhouette of Sawmill Peak, where a fire lookout tower has been for decades. It’s an iconic shape on the horizon from the valley floor, and being a lookout made it even more appropriate.
ToP: This logo focuses on a sun motif instead of trees like the last seal. What was the thought behind that choice?
JE: Although we miss the trees lost from the Camp Fire, a silver lining has been the increased visibility of truly spectacular sunrises and sunsets over the mountains and canyons. It’s a new day in Paradise and we wanted to highlight what continues to make this Town so special.
ToP: The font looks familiar!
JE: That’s right! I used a typeface for the word “Paradise” that gives a nod to the famous old welcome sign on the Skyway.
Thanks, Jake! The new seal is now officially part of the municipal code letterhead and other documents, so look for it on our website, emails, social media, and anywhere you find the Town of Paradise!
