Above-ground utilities are community fire hazards for many reasons. They have an increased risk of falling during high wind, causing sparks from malfunctioning components, and high combustibility due to wooden materials. Many utility poles were destroyed during the Camp Fire, creating an opportunity to underground all of Paradise’s utilities. This project is led by PG&E.
Benefit to Paradise
Undergrounding utilities such as internet and phone lines will provide residents and businesses with stronger, lightning-fast connections, less disruption of service, and improved communication. It will also provide a safer infrastructure for service distribution.
Estimated Timeframe
Undergrounding of utilities has already begun, with estimated completion throughout the Town in 2025.
This will be determined upon implementation, but the goal is to install underground utilities throughout the Town of Paradise.
