Town of Paradise September TOP POP Recap!
The outdoors can be intimidating, but local Boy and Girl Scout troops are on a mission to change that! They were the perfect choice to host September’s ToP POP event, the “Scouts Survival Skills Workshop.”
We were excited to partner with the Town of Paradise, said Scouts Leader B. Hays, “and provide an opportunity for the community to better understand the importance of being prepared for different situations.”
About 50 residents attended the event. In addition to camping tips and demonstrations, participants learned how to:
- Tie knots.
- Apply bandages and ointments.
- Prepare a “Ten Essentials” kit.
Attendees got to keep the Ten Essentials kits they made, complete with items like navigation tools and first aid supplies!
But the fun didn’t stop there: guests also had the chance to win prizes! After visiting all 10 stations, participants were entered in a raffle. Smaller (but still exciting) prizes included a marshmallow roaster kit and fishing equipment, while the big winner received a backpack with hiking equipment.
This event gave residents a chance to connect with the Scouts and other members of the community. And Scouts were happy to answer any questions for youngsters interested in joining a troop, or adults who wanted to get involved with the organizations!
