TOWN COUNCIL UPDATE

New Mayor & Vice Mayor Selected

At the December 14th Paradise Town Council meeting, Steve Crowder was reelected as the Mayor and the decision confirmed that he will serve another term. Greg Bolin was elected as the Vice Mayor and the decision was made that he will be serving as the Vice Mayor for the next term. Gold Nugget Museum Holiday Ribbon Cutting, December 16

Come by the Gold Nugget Museum for a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Thursday, December 16! This event will be located at the new museum property at 475 Pearson Road, Paradise from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a tour of the facility and light refreshments as the community celebrates this long awaited achievement! Good Country Dinner and Dance, December 17

Join a night of dinner and dancing while listening to the live performance of the Good Country Band! This event is on December 17 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 5738 Pentz Rd. The dinner is free, but a donation is greatly appreciated! Paradise Alliance Church Presents Christmas Movie Special, December 17

Grab a lawn chair and blanket and come enjoy the Christmas Movie Special at the Paradise Alliance Church. On Friday, December 17 there will be a showing of Frosty the Snowman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Santa Claus Is Coming to Town. Northern California Ballet Presents The Nutcracker, December 17-19

From the captivating dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy to the iconic snow scene, this classical ballet set to the beloved music of Tchaikovsky continues to enthrall audiences of all ages. The ballet takes place Friday, December 17 at 7:15 p.m., Saturday, December. 18 at 2:15 p.m. & 7:15 p.m., and Sunday, December. 19, at 2:15 p.m at the Paradise Performing Arts Center. 6th Annual Christmas Party for Kids on the Ridge, December 18

Bring your kids ages 2 to 12 to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Veterans Memorial Hall on December 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will provide lunch and many fun activities for the kids including a bounce house and games. The Yule Logs Winter Wonderland Performance, December 18

Enjoy a FREE concert while you skate at the Terry Ashe Recreation Center on December 18. The Yule Logs Winter Wonderland Performance begin at 6:30 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. This concert is free to the public, but donations are gladly accepted to keep the music and ice in Paradise. Paradise Friends of the Library Book Sale, December 18

Perfect for stocking stuffers or catching up with a good read during the holidays. The sale goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the library at 5922 Clark Rd, Paradise! Prices start at 50 cents for paperbacks with larger paperbacks at 75 cents, $1 for hard covers. 

Children’s paperback books are 25 cents, with hardback children’s books 50 cents. Special books will be marked higher. All proceeds benefit the Paradise Public Library.

Santa Visit, December 19 

Don’t miss out on a FREE visit and photo opportunity with Santa on December 19! This event will take place at the Hope Church at 14126 Skyway, Magalia. Traditional Educational Knowledge Native Seed Workshop, December 19

Learn about the native seeds of Paradise at the Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) Native Seed Workshop on December 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will teach you about basic seed anatomy, gathering and processing seeds, and fire-adapted seeds. Light refreshments will be provided, but it is recommended that you bring your own water bottle, snack, closed toed shoes, hat, trowel, notebook, and pen. Join this event at the Sol Sanctuary Ranch at 4791 Round Valley Ranch Rd. in Paradise. This event is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. Paradise on Ice OPEN Now Through January 17

Paradise on Ice is now back through January 17! Come out for a fun day of ice skating with your family and friends. Paradise on Ice offers public skate, adult skate, lessons, private rentals, and party rooms! The ice rink will be open daily (weather permitting) and the hours are: Mon-Thurs 2:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m., Friday 12 p.m.- 8 p.m., Saturday 12 p.m.- 10 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m.- 8 p.m.

Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) Expanding Mutual Self-Help Housing Program in Paradise

If you are a lot owner in Paradise looking to rebuild OR you are interested in helping build a new home for your family in Town, you may be eligible to be a part of the new self-help housing program from CHIP. Eligible families meeting low income requirements and other criteria will appreciate affordable monthly payments, the ability to help build your own home, no down payment, and a low fixed interest rate. No construction experience necessary! Paradise Irrigation District Update

With the return of water consumption billing, PID customers are asking how this change will affect their monthly water bill.  We have information available at https://pidwater.com/metersto help Paradise residents prepare for and estimate their future water bills.  PID will notify customers ahead of time with an example bill to show them what to expect. Customers can also download a mobile app (dropcountr) to help them monitor water usage and alert them to unexpected water use or a leak.

  • Total Customers: 8,794

  • Active customers: 4,033

  • Properties with cleared water: 3674

  • Metered billing resumes in January of 2022.

Surveillance monitoring of distribution system: 1270 system samples since Sept 2020; one had a detect for benzene but when resampled was non-detect (as of October 28, 2021)

The Rebuild Paradise Foundation (RPF) and Valley Contractors Exchange (VCE) have partnered to launch Home Builders Resource Connection Online Plan Room! This FREE tool is intended to connect the dots between those looking to rebuild after the devastating fires Butte County has experienced in 2018 and 2020 and contractors that can perform this work. Funding Options for Those Rebuilding after the Camp Fire

  1. NEW – Grants Up to $200,000 Available for those Rebuilding after the Camp Fire

    The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) recently announced the Disaster Housing Assistance Survey for survivors of the 2018 wildfire disasters is now open. Homes damaged or destroyed by the Camp Fire may be eligible for up to $200,000; and low- to moderate-income households will receive priority.

    If you are a disaster survivor and wish to see if you qualify for the ReCoverCA Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program (OOR Program), start by taking the 2018 Disaster Housing Assistance survey available at https://recover.hcd.ca.gov/.  If you need assistance with the survey, contact Butte County OOR Case Managers Brittney Murray or Glen Johnson at (916) 202-1764.

  2. Up to $150,000 in low-interest, deferred Loans for homeowners (can be used even if insurance funds and/or FEMA funds have been spent)

    The Town of Paradise offers deferred, low-interest loans to low and moderate income households rebuilding after the Camp Fire. For more information on eligibility and how to apply, click here or call the Town’s Housing Department at (530) 872-6291 x122. We are happy to answer any questions you might have. 

  3. Missing Middle Grant – Up to $5,000 to qualifying middle-class or lower middle-class households

    Rebuild Paradise Foundation is offering grant funding that is awarded as reimbursement for the following pre-construction costs: up to $2,000(max) for survey costs, up to $2,000(max) for architecture/engineering fees and up to $1,000(max) for water related expenses. Town Hall and the Building Resiliency Center Open to the Public 

Town Hall and the Building Resiliency Center (BRC), both on Skyway are open to the public. Town Hall and Town Meetings are open to the public with limited seating and social distancing procedures in place. The BRC is accepting walk-ins and individuals are requested to ring the bell located by the front doors to enter. This will ensure social distancing requirements can be met.
