RECOVERY STORY

Butte County Fire Safe Council: Fighting Fire With Education

What is Calli-Jane West excited for this year? Butte County Fire Safe Council’s (BCFSC) first annual Grazing Festival, of course!

Calli-Jane has spent the last 16 years as the Executive Director for BCFSC, a Butte county community-based nonprofit established in 1998 that brings agency and community members together to ensure their neighborhoods are prepared for wildland fires.

Calli-Jane’s commitment to her community has not gone unnoticed, and she was recently given Senate District 4’s “2022 Woman of the Year” award.

“Paradise is really the best place on earth to live,” she said. “It’s very exciting being able to see the beauty and hope in all of the projects that are coming together.”

Town of Paradise Awarded Funding for Emergency Warning System

Great news! FEMA granted the Town of Paradise funding for the construction of an Emergency Warning System!

A quick recap: After the fire, FEMA granted the Town funds to design the system, which was completed in November 2020.  The Town then applied again to FEMA for grant funding to construct the system.

What’s next: The Town will issue a Request for Proposal to choose a contractor. We expect construction to begin this summer.
